At Westminster Secondary School, our Math program is designed to inspire and empower every student. In our "thinking classrooms," students engage in dynamic, hands-on activities that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective teamwork. Every lesson is carefully crafted to spark curiosity and build confidence, helping students tackle mathematical challenges with a positive mindset.

We take a unique approach by using spiraling curricula, which revisits key concepts throughout the year to strengthen understanding and retention. This method ensures that students not only grasp foundational concepts but also see how mathematical principles are interconnected across different topics.

To support every learner, we offer dedicated math help sessions three times a week in Room 223 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Additionally, students preparing for the EQAO Math assessment can benefit from specialized lunchtime prep sessions held weekly in Room 103. Our dedicated team of teachers is committed to providing personalized guidance and helping each student reach their full potential.

For peer-driven support, our tutoring program connects younger students with mentors from our Grade 11 and 12 math courses. These peer tutors offer valuable insights, relatable perspectives, and additional help to navigate challenging topics and build academic confidence.

Students with a passion for mathematics can join our weekly Math Club, where they explore advanced topics, collaborate on complex problems, and prepare for math contests. This club offers a supportive space to deepen understanding, tackle exciting challenges, and form lasting friendships with like-minded peers.

We believe in connecting math with real-world applications. Our program gives students hands-on experience with technologies like 3D printing and robotics, allowing them to see mathematical concepts in action. By working on projects that bridge theory and practice, students can bring their creative ideas to life and develop a greater appreciation for the power of mathematics.
